FAQs – REGARDING RULES

Can you explain what subjects will be covered in each category of trivia questions?

Sure. Business (BIZ) questions include mergers and acquisitions, stocks and bonds, money and currency, product lines, marketing, advertising slogans, accounting, finance, transportation, business law and management. Entertainment (ENT) questions include comic books and comic strips, fine arts, pop culture, media and news, photography, literature, television, movies, video games, modeling and amusement parks. Geography (GEO) questions include world and U.S. geography, people of the world, customs, languages and religions. History (HIS) questions include world and U.S. history, law, government, the military and politics. Science (SCI) questions include inventors and inventions, anatomy, biology, chemistry, physics, weather, astronomy, space exploration, technology, nature, the environment, telecom, mathematics and psychology. Sports (SPO) questions include professional, amateur, college, international or Olympic sports. Potluck (POT) questions may include questions from any of the above categories or other general knowledge questions.

Oddball (ODD) questions are different from all of the above. Each Oddball question consists of four alternatives; three of them with some positive trait in common. The fourth one does not connect with the others. The answer identifies the one that does not fit with a brief explanation of the positive connection between the other three.

The category grid also includes Player’s Choice (PLA) and Opponent’s Choice (OPP), allowing the player or the opponents to choose any of the above 8 categories from which to answer a question.

May I just play Brain Pills without playing a movement card?

No. Each player must play a movement card on each turn. In addition, a player has the option of playing as many Brain Pills as he or she wishes.

May I play more than one movement card on a turn?

No. A player may only play one movement card per turn. If a player wishes to move additional spaces, he or she may use Brain Pills.

May I move the playing pawn in any direction?

No. The playing pawn may only be moved clockwise around the red Exterior Track.

If the pawn lands on the corner square marked “move link,” may I move my own link?

Yes. You may move one link of any color to any other unoccupied square.

May I choose a category that is diagonal from the playing pawn?

No. While a Brain Chain may be formed diagonally, the category can only be chosen from those that are in the same horizontal row or vertical column as the playing pawn. If the pawn is on a corner space, you do not “choose diagonally” but simply follow the instructions on the yellow corner square. If the playing pawn is moved to the corner square marked “Wild Spot,” any unoccupied square may be chosen.

Do I get an additional turn if I answer a question correctly?

No. The advantage of answering a question correctly is receiving a link in the square attempted and a Brain Pill. Your turn is then over.

The other team/player picked “opponent’s choice.” May I read all the questions on the card before selecting which one to give the player who picked “opponent’s choice?”

No. When another player picks “opponent’s choice” a selection of the other eight categories must be made before the trivia card is drawn from the box. Should the card already be drawn, the remaining player(s) on the reader’s team must select a question without input from the reader. If there is only one player on the reader’s team, the question becomes “player’s choice” instead.

I have found more than one possible correct answer to an Oddball question. How is this possible?

For clarification purposes, Oddball answers never consider race, gender, religion, or culture. The correct answer is the one the creators believe to be the most obvious connection between three of the listed items. If you still believe a discrepancy exists, visit our “challenged questions” list. If you are still unsatisfied with the answer, send us an email and we will look into it.
